Our trip to Germany... Part 1!

Let me just start off by saying this was truly one of the best vacations that we have ever taken! It was amazing and I wish that we could have stayed longer. I would love to live in this place for a little while. We took a four hour road trip through Italy, then into Austria, and then finally to southern Germany into a town called Garmish. One of the things that made the trip so fun was the actual drive because the sights were absolutely gorgeous. We packed in so much during our three day trip that I don't think I can fit it all into one blog. Therefore, I think that I will break it up into a few blogs. The first installment will be our drive up and the first night there.
This first picture I took because I wanted to show that the mountains had snow on them. It was August (one of the hottest months of the year) and yet there is still snow on the peaks of these mountains. It was so pretty. When we left Vicenza, the temperature was in the 90's. As we came closer to Germany, the temperature dropped pretty steadily. The day that we left Germany to come home, it was 56 degrees and we loved it!

Once we got into Austria, we were ready to stop and eat. We were pretty excited about trying the food. The towns in Austria were so neat looking. They were so "Bavarian"! If you have ever been to Helen, GA then you would know what style I am talking about. RT and I lived so close to Helen in GA that we visited there a lot. We were talking about how Helen is like a novelty town to us but these towns in Austria and Germany were real life, every day reality for these people. We decided to stop off at a little place on the side of a mountain for lunch. The view was nothing short of amazing and the food was incredible. We knew this was going to be a good trip from this first experience. The one thing that really shocked me was just how different things were in Austria and Germany compared to Italy. The language is not even close to being similar and the food was a lot different. The one thing we loved was that the people in Bavaria were so nice. A welcome change from how the Italians are!! These are a couple of pictures from our lunch spot.

It wasn't long and we were in Germany. It took us a little bit to find our resort but when we finally found it, it was worth the drive for sure!! We stayed at a place called Edelweiss in Garmisch and it was incredible. The view from the hotel was gorgeous and the weather was perfect pretty much the whole time. The first night that we arrived we had scheduled a horse and carriage ride for Emily. She loves horses and we thought that she would like this. We got to the hotel and had to hurry a little because we only had about 40 minutes to check in and be ready to go. Here are some pictures from this excursion...

This is the horse and carriage that came to pick us up.

I promise the next "installment" will be coming soon. I will post pictures of the actual town and day two of our trip! I can't wait to show everyone how much fun we had!!

It still amazes me that you are seeing all these things and that Emily is getting to experience this stuff. The views were amazing! I can't wait for installment 2!
